We Created a New 55 Plus Senior Community Website in Texas.
A Dallas, Texas-based custom home builder contacted us to design their first website for what would be a series of 55 Plus rental communities.
The first community is called The Cottages at Burnett Trail. Once that community is fully launched, their plan is build other 55 Plus communities.
Because they want people ready to move in when the homes are completed, the website needed to go live before the community opened. Of course, that meant we had no images from the community to include in the new website. But we’ve been there before, so we knew how to handle it.
Fortunately, we have experience in the 55 Plus senior community housing industry, so we knew how to work around that limitation.
No Matter Your Age, Getting a New Home is Always an Emotional Experience.
No matter your age, deciding on a new home is an emotional experience. Our goal was to highlight the benefits of the 55 Plus senior community of Burnett Trail right away. When you offer the emotional approach, sharing the benefits of the community and a new phase of life, it makes the decision much less overwhelming.
The custom home builder building the community shared all the amazing things that were part of The Cottages at Burnett Trail. So despite not having images, we had a LOT to work with.
Telling a Story – from an Emotional Perspective.
As with other projects, we created a video showing the benefits of the community. Without community images, we curated stock videos that showed how amazing their new life at The Cottages at Burnett Trail would be.
We don’t believe videos without text tell enough of a story. So we incorporating text which worked with the videos. And since we’re all members of The Short Attention Span Society, we understand the videos can’t be too long.

The Rest of the 55 Plus Website.
With experience working with 55 Plus communities, we knew exactly what to include in the rest of the website. Expanding on all the benefits living at The Cottages offered, we were able to structure the rest of the website and write the content., which included the following pages:

- The Benefits of Downsizing
- About Community Living
- The Next Phase in Active Adult Living
- How “Universal Design” Makes Living Easier
Naturally, we included pages for floor plans, amenities, and the benefits of renting vs, buying a home. The renting vs. buying element is a big concern for people who have always owned homes. But when they understand they have zero maintenance responsibilities, they really see the benefits.
Creating Engaging Websites.
In addition to building the homepage around the emotional benefits, both with images and content, animating text also creates an engaging experience. Check out the The Cottages at Burnett Trail, and you’ll see this area of text (below) is animated which adds interest.
