New Rust Belt Offroad Web Design
This time around, they needed the real deal. We originally built Rust Belt a very simple brochure style website on SquareSpace. A kind of, who we are, what we do—contact us—kind of website.
Now they were ready for the next evolution. The folks at Rust Belt Offroad needed to not only expand the Services they offer their customers, but also start selling restoration products and parts. The extensive parts list meant a whole new website build and e-commerce function was necessary.
However, the cornerstone of their business is in-house constructing Classic Bronco Tubs. They are now expanding this to Classic Chevy Blazer Tubs. They weld and sell these tubs from their own garage.
What they truly needed was the ability for folks to “Build their Own Tub,” and get an estimate. So we built them a form that allows their customers to build their own tub using pre-set list of options to choose from.
As they add items to the list, the total estimate calculator tallies the amount—when they are finished, they can simply call or submit the form to Rust Belt to review and call them back for a final quote.
Lots of fun problems to solve, but the first step is to create a great design!
New Logo? Might as well create a whole Video Trailer too.
After the initial meeting with the client, we learned they have all new photography and videos to boot. They also wanted a new logo, something to match their new site, new look and new name.
Previously, the company name was Rust Belt Broncos—now they are expanding to include Classic Blazers, and many others to come. A new “Rust Belt Offroad” logo would be a must to coincide with this new expansion.
Once the new logo was designed, and primary colors were chosen, we decided the next step is to create a homepage video. Something with some punch, something with action and drama. We knew we could take what photos and videos they already have. We could then chop them up in Adobe Premiere Pro, and create an eye-opening video as a focal point of the homepage.
We were able to edit and cut videos & photos of their Bronco driving through mud, off-roading, interior shots behind the driver—but also, cuts of their shop, folks welding and constructing these vehicles. The brilliant part was they had limited video, so we were able to animate their still photography to make it appear like video to keep the flow and glitchy style.
E-Commerce? No Problem. We built their website using Shopify.
Once the design of the logo, branding, video and homepage were finalized, it was time to choose what E-Commerce solution to run with. After a few meetings and gathering more information from the client—we all concluded that Shopify would be the best fit for everything.
Just the sheer number of products & parts. Connecting to their internal system. And just the simple ease of creating, categorizing and organizing all these parts—it just made sense. Only downside was custom coding a Shopify template is not the easiest task, Shopify really makes you work to make those kinds of customizations.
In the end, even though the site became a some-what of “labor of love”—we are very proud of this website design and build. Even though we’ve been building websites for more than 15 years, we still learn something new with every project, and this site was no different.
