Let’s start with the bottomline:
No, AI doesn’t replace web developers. Not yet.

Wanna see why?
We posted this prompt on Anthropic’s Claude:
Create a homepage for a luxury home builder. The top level navigation has links for About, Gallery, Designs, blog and contact. Code it so there’s a slide show showing 3 exteriors of different luxury homes. Write 250 words of copy to appear under the slide show that talks about the emotional aspect of owning a luxury home. Below that have a blog section showing 2 blogs, each with an image of the interiors of a luxury home, each with 25 words of teaser copy about trends in home building, with a link button below each. Have a footer below that with all the navigation, a facebook logo and instagram logo, and a phone number .
See the homepage it created here (even though the slide show doesn’t seem to work).
Now see the home builder websites we create on the home builder section of our website here.
AI is an assistant, which isn’t the same as human web developers.
According to Google’s AI, Gemini, there are no real life functioning, public websites completely designed and built by ChatGPT, or other AI apps, without human assistance or direction.
That said, in 2025, there were AI tools from Wix ADI, Framer AI, and Durable that are able to build entire websites from simple prompts. But again, any AI-generated websites absolutely benefit from human interaction and oversight.

While AI tools can assist with generating portions of a website’s code (things like HTML, CSS, JavaScript) and maybe even some content, having humans involved is always needed for several key steps:
- Guidance and developing the prompts: With humans providing prompts, which define a website’s format and target audience, AI is helpless. Humans are still the critical element to help guide the any AI efforts through the process.
- Building and Launching: True, AI can generate code snippets, but we’re still needed to assemble the pieces and parts. In addition, we’re the ones who manage the domain name, set up the hosting environment, and launch the website.
- Creative Decisions: Thank goodness a human’s judgment is still essential for critical parts of any marketing, websites included, for determining the brand identity, critical design elements, and ensuring the final website meets the benefits for your audience.
- Ongoing Maintenance: Humans need to review the generated code for potential security issues, debug errors, and ensure the site functions reliably. There’s also ongoing maintenance to keep the website’s security up-to-date.
AI is potentially a powerful assistant in website development.
Ai definitely can help with streamlining the process for non-technical users. But those non-technical users who could work through a platform like Wix and Squarespace, but it does not operate as a fully independent developer.
Read how one developer ranked AI website builders here. And see one web developers perspective on current AI tools and their limitations here.
And for those non-technical folks, unless you have a marketing perspective, the website you build will definitely fall short of engaging your prospects.
Can AI create an engaging, educational homepage video? (Hint: Nope!)
We’re all members of The Short Attention Span Society, so if you don’t tell your story in 30 seconds, you’re failing to engage your prospects. Videos should be a bog part of your messaging on the homepage, and in our professional opinion only experiences web developers are equipped to make that happen.
See examples of homepage videos we’ve created for these websites below. American Heritage Homes, The Cottages of Burnett Trail, Rust Belt Offroad, and Romanelli & Hughes.
