photo of homeless man in Chicago with new attractive sign asking for help

We've come across three extremely different studies about type this week and wanted to post them for your perusal.

Starting with The Urban Type Experience, and Art Director in Chicago became exposed to the abundance of less-fortunate folks spending their days on the streets asking for help. Because most people tend to avoid interaction with these homeless folks, this designer wanted to test his theory: if he redesigned their signs (still on cardboard) would that help get the attention of people who ordinarily would pass them by.

Every week he would meet a new person begging on the street. After he carefully hand lettering a new sign for them, he went back the following week to see if there was any difference in their interactions with people walking by. He documented the before and after signs, and what, if anything, had transpired with the individuals he gave the new signs to. Pretty interesting.

disgusting image of worm-like creature spelling out the letter Lcan you sit though this entire alphabet?

The second type experiment is a fairly eerie, disgusting alphabet animated by an animated grotesque creature that squirms its way through spelling out all 26 letters.

nominated as the worst logo variation series of 2015

And it is only APRIL! But this one is so sophomoric, it already has probably won the prize for the worst logo variations. Evidently, the designer thought it would be hilarious if he (we have to assume it is a man... a women wouldn't waste her time doing this) by adding penises to the logos of major brands.

We're amazed people have the time to do this stuff!
